PATE DE VERRE with Cassandra Daw TBA $240 (Everything included)
Pate de verre involves making a paste of glass that is applied to the surface of the mould, then fired. The end result is a fine and delicate piece of translucent glass art. Pate de verre has the advantage of allowing the artist to place glass colours in a very precise manner in the mould. The usual way of putting glass into a mould can result in the glass moving in the kiln and the result is not is expected. Because pate de verre uses glass frit or powder it allows very good control of the colour placing. 10AM to 3pm

The Egyptians are credited with the first use of pate de verre, but French artists revived it a hundred years ago hence it's name, which means glass paste. In traditional French pate de verre, the artist mixed crushed glass with enamels or paint to form a paste that was carefully placed in a mould and then fired. Todays artists use much the same technique, but the grain size of the glass is of much better consistency because of superior manufacturing methods. Frit is available in many sizes and any size may be used, but the smaller sizes are most useful. So for this reason pate de verre castings tend to be translucent or even opaque.
