FUSING AND SLUMPING |
|
Fusing offers many
new, exciting and challenging ways of working with glass. Students will
complete a number of fused and
slumped glass pieces of their choice. These may include such things as
platters, bowls, plates and other functional items. Or bring your own ideas
and discuss them with our highly qualified tutor. This is a hands-on workshop
so be prepared to learn by
doing. Create your own work using our large range of moulds. Students will be
encouraged to explore their creativity by developing their own unique ideas
and designs in glass.
Join us and enjoy the company of like-minded people.
All you have to do now is show up with willing hands and have fun!

A BASIC COURSE
OUTLINE |
|
You will begin by
learning to cut glass. Instruction on kiln
maintenance, safety precautions, glass compatibility, annealing and firing
schedules are all areas on which instruction will be given. You will acquire
a basic understanding of the different techniques associated with fusing,
slumping, and texturing. Students will be
introduced to glass slumping, and the different uses of fibre and ceramic
moulds. Firing schedules for slumping will be discussed. Students will be
given instruction on the techniques associated with flat fusing using
Bullseye glass, glass frits, glass powders and glass stringers. Firing
schedules for fusing will also be discussed. Your tuition fee
includes a starter pack. It contains samples of assorted glass frits and
powders, fire paper and other relevant items. Students are
encouraged to make full use of our glass grinders, circle cutters, light
tables, rulers and drawing materials. After you have completed
your class you can continue your
work using our studio and kilns at a nominal cost. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: For safety reasons
closed in shoes must be worn at all times.
